H.E. Gamal Mohamed Hassan is the Federal Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Appointed on 16 December 2025, he leads the Ministry's mandate on private sector development, trade promotion, industrial policy, business registration, and consumer protection. He previously served as Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, where he led the negotiation of Somalia's HIPC debt relief and the National Development Plan. Within his first 100 days at MoCI, he secured a $1.2 billion partnership at the China-Somalia Investment & Trade Forum, advanced AfCFTA ratification, reduced business registration from 25 steps to 5, and launched the digital platforms Sicir and Made in Somalia.
