EAC Accession

Somalia joined the East African Community (EAC) as its 8th member in 2024. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Foreign Trade & Market Access Department, coordinates implementation of Somalia’s EAC accession obligations.

Membership Status

Somalia’s admission into the East African Community marks a major step in regional integration, enabling closer trade cooperation, regulatory harmonisation, and implementation of regional economic frameworks.

8th EAC Partner State

Somalia formally joined the East African Community in 2024 and is now participating in regional economic and trade integration processes under the EAC Treaty.

The Foreign Trade & Market Access Department serves as the lead unit for coordinating Somalia’s EAC implementation obligations, alignment milestones, and partner-state engagements.
