The AfCFTA was signed in Kigali, Rwanda in 2018 and entered into force in 2019 after the required ratifications. It is the largest free trade area in the world by number of participating countries, bringing together African Union Member States into one market of over 1.3 billion people with a combined GDP of more than USD 3 trillion.
