AfCFTA

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is the African Union’s flagship trade agreement aimed at creating a single continental market for goods and services, strengthening intra-African trade, and supporting industrialisation and economic integration.

About AfCFTA

The AfCFTA was signed in Kigali, Rwanda in 2018 and entered into force in 2019 after the required ratifications. It is the largest free trade area in the world by number of participating countries, bringing together African Union Member States into one market of over 1.3 billion people with a combined GDP of more than USD 3 trillion.

Somalia and AfCFTA

Somalia has ratified the AfCFTA and developed a National Implementation Strategy to align national trade systems, strengthen export competitiveness, and improve market access across Africa. The strategy was validated in Mogadishu in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
