Somalia Officially Joins East African Community

Somalia has officially become a full member of the East African Community (EAC) following the submission of its instruments of ratification documents by Minister of Commerce and Industry H.E. Hon. Jibril Abdirashid Hagi Abdi. The documents were received by EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki.

The submission of the instrument are included the signing of the agreement by the President of Somalia in Kampala, Uganda, and approval by the Somali Federal Parliament. As the EAC’s eighth member, Somalia is set to gain significant benefits in trade and other areas of interaction with East African communities

During the ceremony, Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi was awarded the EAC flag and the constitution, marking the successful completion of Somalia’s accession to the community.
