HE. Hon. Mohamoud Ahmed Aden Geesood – Biography

His Excellency Hon. Mohamoud Ahmed Aden Geesood is the current Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Republic of Somalia and a Member of the House of the People.

He holds a university degree in Security Policy and Public Administration from the United Kingdom. Prior to his election to Parliament, Minister Geesood served as a senior advisor to the Ministry of Defence, playing a key role in national security reform and the strengthening of government institutions.

Minister Geesood began his political career in Puntland, a federal member state of Somalia, where he held various administrative and political positions before transitioning to the national stage.

On March 5, 2022, he was elected in Bosaso to represent Constituency HOP#157. Since then, he has been actively involved in legislative processes and constitutional review, with a strong emphasis on reinforcing governance frameworks.

Between 2024 and 2025, he served as Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, leading efforts to modernize Somalia’s port infrastructure. In March 2025, he was appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry, focusing on enhancing trade, attracting foreign investment, and expanding Somalia’s export markets regionally and internationally.
