H.E. Gamal Mohamed Hassan

Minister of Commerce and Industry Federal Republic of Somalia

Gamal Mohamed Hassan is a seasoned public leader with extensive experience in government, diplomacy, and economic development. He currently serves as the Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Republic of Somalia, where he leads national efforts to strengthen trade, industrial growth, and private sector development.

Previously, Minister Hassan held several senior national and international roles. He served as Director of the IGAD Centre for Economic Policy Analysis and Development (IGAD-CAEP), contributing to regional economic policy formulation and cross-border cooperation. He has also served as Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of Somalia, a Member of the Federal Parliament, and Ambassador of Somalia to Kenya, in addition to acting as Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat.

Minister Hassan is recognized for his strategic leadership, commitment to institutional reform, and focus on creating an enabling environment for investment, trade facilitation, and sustainable economic growth in Somalia.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is responsible for overseeing commercial and industrial activities for the State of Somalia, directing these activities in accordance with the requirements of national development.
