The Director General of the Ministry Has Opened The first of a series of regional Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) workshops in Baidoa

Baidoa(MoCI Media):-The Director General of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Federal Republic of Somalia Mr. Abdiaziz Ibrahim Adan opened on Thursday, 23 2022 the first of a series of regional Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) workshops about government-related policies, strategies, rules, and regulations for strengthening private sector organizations (PSOs) and cooperatives in Baidoa, South West State of Somalia.

This project was implemented by the DAI global and funded by the EU to stimulate sustainable production, and foster inclusive economic growth and job opportunities. The Cooperatives address a wide range of issues and allow many people to find solutions for their common concerns.

The event, which was held in Baidoa, South West region, was an opportunity for our technical assistance team to raise awareness of the findings from a mapping study that was conducted on PSOs. At a panel, discussion participants learned also about government-related policies, strategies, rules, and regulations for easing and developing business opportunities in Somalia.

“Most of the cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) remain informal with limited access to linkages to finance and markets. The SPDI program, together with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry(MOCI) supports formalizing business associations and cooperatives through improved policy and regulatory enabling environment”, said Mr. Ibrahim Isse, Director of SME & Coop, Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industries.

Mr. Abdiaziz Ibrahim Adan, Director-General, Federal Minister of Commerce and Industries reiterated: “The Ministry is committed to continuing such programs that make stronger the SMEs in a form of cooperatives and PSOs and promoting a mutual understanding among their members and people in general and also to minimize the obstacles that they face as SMEs or the whole private sector at large’’.
